Thanks for putting together this blog. I thought I'd send an update. I'm finishing my last 5 weeks of student teaching and should have a teaching credential by the end of May! After teaching on an emergency credential with Teach For America for two years, 99-2001, it'll be nice to actually have an official credential!

My wife, Alayna, is almost done with her MSW and we are still living in Portland, OR. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello Tiffany -

The site is fantastic!

I recently accepted an offer from the NJ Governor's newly created Office of Economic Growth as the first ever Director of Small, Women and Minority Owned Business Development. As the Director of SWMB Development, I will oversee the implementation of the State Economic Growth Strategy to grow small businesses and encourage urban development as well as oversee the department of business services whose mission is to market, promote, and train small businesses, especially those business owned by women and minorities to grow and prosper in New Jersey’s State Economy. In addition, I will work closely with the Governor’s Chief of Economic Growth to develop new strategies to encourage job growth.

The position requires that my husband and I relocate to NJ from Southwestern Pennsylvania, so things are quite busy, but very exciting!

Wish me luck!

This news came in from Siobhann Hall.

To update, since leaving Smith, I have been working with ED kids and families in a school setting since 9/99. I supervise and really enjoy this aspect of being a social worker. I currently have been married for over 14 years, and have two amazing little boys. Our 5 1/2 year old is in Kindergarden, Harry, the other our youngest addition, Theo, is 3 months old. We live in Marin, CA. I work with lots of other Smithies, which is great to have that bond. I look forward to reading about the updates from my other classmates. Thanks! Siobhann Hall

hola!
it's really awesome that you made this blog. i am excited to be more in touch with people, and it is so much faster than writing in and seeing something print months later.

life has been quite the adventure since i left smith. i got my MFA in photography in nuevo mexico about 5 years ago and continue to make art and have shows regularly. i have a website for my art: www.lilymichaud.com.

however soon after grad school i decided that i needed to make some money, so i became an RN. i have been working at the university hospital in my home town (iowa city, iowa) for the last several months on a nonvascular neurology floor. it is interesting and i have plenty of time for art and to spend with my life-partner kevin.

all in all things are going well. i hope that i will catch up with some old friends through this. i know ms. fessenden is out there on the web often.

Oh shoot, I forgot about my life outside of work. My husband, Brian and I were married on the beaches of Jamaica a little over six years ago now.

Brian is an incredibly talented architect who scope is quite board (e.g., residential, commercial, industrial, etc.). His projects have been recognized in several magazines!

We do not have children yet, but have a cute and wacky lab/rott mix named Bella. We have been living in Pittsburgh for the last seven years, we moved here right after I graduated from Smith so that I could attend graduate school at Carnegie Mellon. I got my MS in Public Policy in 2001 and I have been working mostly in the areas of housing and economic development since leaving CMU.

After a short stint in the private sector as a consultant, I am moving into my new position with the Governor's Office in NJ.

Greetings, 99ers!

I am doing very well - married for 2.5 years to a wonderful husband, living in an adorable shack in Annapolis, sharing the adventures with two dogs and a cat.

Most recently, I started my own business. If you are (or know someone who is) starting a business as well, keep me in mind to help with your marketing needs: www.singlechair.com (Single Chair Creative Studio).

Hugs to all,

Hillary (Thomas) Shaw

Greetings from Lawrence, MA. I am currently working as the program specialist for our state's first Aging and Disability Resource Center. Luckily, the Feds and State both love our setup, and want to continue funding, so I will still have a job when this grant is over!

I'd love to hear from anyone in the Boston/Andover area!

Hi Everyone. This is Cherilyn Cepriano, 1999 Class Secretary. I am technologically inept and therefore understand very little about blogging, websites, and even email except how to type and hit send. But this seems like a great idea for those (many!) of our classmates who are tech savvy and hip.

Just so folks in this environment know, if you would like to see your update in print in the Alumnae Quarterly (for the more old fashioned among us) you can send me an email at smithcollege1999@yahoo.com or ctcepriano@yahoo.com or mail a letter to me at 1331 S. Eads St, Apt 807, Arlington, VA 22202.

My columns are due on the 15th of February, May, August, and November so there is a little lag time from submission to printing. And I cannot copy something that you have written in the blog (sorry! not my rule!) so if you want to see your updates in print, you have to send them to me directly with that request.

Best of luck in this medium! And super congratulations to all who have posted their wonderful successes here!
